Magaqa to appeal sanction

2011-11-16 06:53

ANC Youth League secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa will appeal his sanction after being found guilty of insulting Public Enterprise Minister Malusi Gigaba, SABC news reported today.

The broadcaster said details of the appeal would be made at a youth league briefing in Joburg today.

The ANC’s national disciplinary committee found Magaqa guilty last week of contravening the constitution of the ANC by making derogatory and potentially defamatory statements.

The committee gave Magaqa the option of publicly apologising within five days or launching an appeal.

An 18-month suspension would apply if he failed to do so, the committee said.

By yesterday, Magaqa had not apologised to Gigaba for the derogatory statements.

Magaqa accused Gigaba of pleasing imperialists after he criticised the youth league on its proposal on nationalisation.

The secretary-general was disciplined along with league president Julius Malema and four other members.
