Magistrate lashes out at cops

The chief magistrate of the Pretoria Magistrates Court today lashed

out at police officers who searched members of the public at the court case of

four officers accused of shooting dead a motorist.

A visibly irritated Desmond Nair told a packed court: “Searches

fall under the ambit of this court.

I determine the security profile. The

security of this court lies within my power.”

Members of the ANC Youth League’s Montana branch also attended

proceedings and some protested against the murder outside the court.

The four: Captain Rosina Mabena, Sergeant Lillian Tlhapi, Sergeant

Jacobeth Ngobeni and warrant officer Enoch Makgamatha allegedly shot dead

22-year-old Nkosinathi Nkosi near the corner of Boom and Cowie streets in

Pretoria on Monday.

Nkosi was reportedly driving on the wrong side of Boom Street and

the officers tried to stop him.They were in an unmarked vehicle and the driver

was not wearing a uniform, while the other three were.
