Malema Day on Twitter

2010-11-12 13:06

Friday was declared “JujuFriday” on Twitter by South African users of the social networking site.

This was in response to the ANC Youth League saying it would call for Twitter to be “closed down” if nothing was done to stop its leader Julius Malema’s impersonators.

Twitter users urged each other yesterday to use their favourite picture of the youth league leader as their profile picture for the day.

By mid-afternoon today “JujuFriday” was one of the top two worldwide trending topics on the social network. Tweets impersonating Malema kept rolling in by the minute.

“Don’t bring me my machine gun! Bring me the Doom, I have a cockroach problem,” twitter user rooikoos tweeted. rooikoos added: “Who is this @rooikoos fellow impersonating me? Bloody imperialist baasted (sic)!”

“Why these agents look like me on this twitter? Shut it off, I don’t understand,” MsMcCrazy said.

Trevorgumbi pushed it a bit far: “Yo Jacob! U having girl problems, I feel bad 4 U son, I’ve got 99 problems but a bitch aint (sic) 1!”

Another user tweeted: “Jujufriday is a trending subject! All happening here on twitter!!! SORRY!!! But I will shut you down!!”

5FM radio jock Gareth Cliff had changed his profile picture to one of himself and Malema. He said: “JuJuFriday – a good time to get rid of your WHITE tendenciess (sic).”
