Malema, Shivambu throw sushi at me – Mngxitama

Andile Mngxitama has pleaded with the EFF to “stop throwing sushi” at him.

Speaking to the media at a much anticipated press conference – following a violent disruption in Cape Town last week – in Sandton this afternoon, suspended EFF MP Mngxitama said that contrary to popular belief, he has never been friends with former convict Gayton McKenzie and sushi king Kenny Kunene.

In recent weeks the EFF has accused Mngxitama of colluding with the two controversial businessmen.

“In all his conduct and actions outside the confines of organisational structures, what Fighter Mgxitama does not indicate is that throughout his misconduct, he has been working closely with leaders of a failed political party called Patriotic Alliance (PA), Kenny Kunene and Gayton Mckenzie.

“As a matter of fact, the SABC interview where Fighter Mngxitama attacked the leadership of the EFF was conducted in Kenny Kunene’s house.  It is unacceptable that in their news report, the SABC did not disclose the newsworthy fact that a deployee of the EFF in Parliament conducted an interview which attacks the leadership in the house of a smaller rival political party in Sandton,” the EFF wrote in a scathing media statement.

Mngxitama vehemently denied these claims at the media briefing today.

“Kenny Kunene is not my friend but Julius Malema and Floyd Shivambu’s. These guys are throwing sushi at me.”

His comments come a week after Gayton McKenzie’s open letter to Julius Malema in which he denied being at the root of the growing troubles of the EFF.

“You claim I am the reason so many people in the EFF seem to be turning against you. You blame Kenny and me for elaborate plots to destabilise the EFF. One thug to another: you’re giving me too much credit, bra. How could I be Andile Mngxitama’s puppet master. One thing he and Chester Missing have in common is stubbornness.

“I could never get that guy to do anything his revolutionary conscience couldn’t live with. I’ve never even met some of the biggest agitators against you in EFF – guys like Lufuno Gogoro. Kenny and I have had nothing to do with how you run your party. We’re hearing about your shenanigans from the people closest to you – and they’re telling us about it because we always warned them what kind of person you are and what you would do once you had any power again,” McKenzie wrote.

Mngxitama said that Malema and Shivambu were close to McKenzie and Kunene who lived lavish lifestyles that were contrary to the revolutionary ideals of the party.

“They are Malema’s friends, I don’t know why they are downloading their friends to me.”

Mngxitama also offered his thoughts on the fashion label often associated with Malema and those close to him.

“I have never bought anything from Louis Vuitton, in my opinion it is very ugly.”

Mngxitama today appeared alongside fellow MPs Mpho Ramakatsa, Lucky Twala and Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala where they announced the launch of their ‘save the soul of the EFF’ campaign. The rally to set off the campaign will take place on Saturday in Mangaung.

The group has called for an independent audit of the party’s finances as well as a lifestyle audit of party members who they claim are living beyond their means and in a way that is contrary to their cause.
