Malema is clutching at straws, says AfriForum

The ANC Youth League is “scurrying about and clutching at straws” because it knows it is going to lose its hate speech case in the Johannesburg High Court.

This was AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel’s reaction to ANC Youth League (ANCYL) leader Julius Malema’s proposal to discuss the matter.

Malema told SABC radio news this week that the ANCYL was willing to discuss an out-of-court settlement with AfriForum.

Kriel’s reaction to this invitation was a terse statement saying the ANCYL “is now beginning to realise that Julius Malema had harmed his own case by playing to the audience in court, rather than presenting the court with fair arguments”.

He said his organisation was “going full steam ahead with the court case against Malema”.

AfriForum would definitely not change its opinion that Malema’s use of the “Shoot the Boer” slogan was hate speech, he added.

The case resumes on May 19.
