Man accused of painkiller tampering

2011-09-26 09:18

A homeless British man is due to appear in court, accused of sabotaging packets of painkillers with anti-psychotic drugs.

Christopher McGuire was arrested last week and charged with one count of contamination of goods and two counts of administering a noxious substance.

Police launched an investigation last month after four boxes of Nurofen Plus were found to contain a prescription-only anti-psychotic drug.

Another contained a drug used to treat epilepsy.

Nurofen manufacturer Reckitt Benkiser recalled the product and stopped distribution when it discovered the contamination.

The company said the recall was limited to UK supplies of the medication.

Thirty-year-old McGuire will appear today at West London Magistrates Court.
