Man accused of shooting teenage daughter gets bail

2011-11-04 07:03

A man who appeared in the Mdutjana Magistrates’ Court in Mpumalanga in connection with the alleged murder of his daughter was released on bail.

Collin Masilela (49) was granted R1 000 bail yesterday and the matter was postponed to December 7 for further investigations, Lieutenant colonel Leonard Hlathi said.

He said Masilela was arrested on Wednesday at his home in Siyabuswa, near Marble Hall. This was after he allegedly shot dead his 15-year-old daughter when she arrived home around 11pm.

Masilela told the police he heard noises outside his house and went out to investigate, Hlathi said. “It appeared he mistook his daughter for an intruder and fired a shot at her.”

The teenager died on the scene.
