An unidentified man has been arrested after trying to set the department of health’s offices in Pretoria on fire.

“The suspect was arrested at about 12pm,” said Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, Gauteng police spokesperson.

The man in question is said to have entered the building and poured a flammable liquid onto the floor of the reception area. He set the liquid alight and ran off.

“The police were able to catch him as he was running away,” said Dlamini.

The fire was extinguished shortly after it started, but the extent of the damage is still unknown.

“No injuries were sustained. All department employees were evacuated from the building as a precautionary measure,” he said.

The motive for the act is yet to be established. “We are still going to profile the person,” he said.
