Man arrested for raping toddler

A 44-year-old man was arrested in Sharpeville last night for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl, Gauteng police said.

“Allegedly the four-year-old told her mother that she wanted to urinate, but when she tried it was too painful,” Warrant Officer Aubrey Moopeloa said today.

“When the mother asked the four-year-old why it was painful, she said a certain guy who is known to her put something in her vagina.”

The mother took her daughter to the police station and they were taken to the Kopanong Hospital in Vereeniging.

The girl was examined and it was confirmed she had been raped.

The man was arrested at his home.

He lived on the same street as the girl.

The man was in police custody, but had not been formally charged.

As soon as this was done he would appear in the Vereeniging Magistrates Court.

Sharpeville’s Vuka Vuka section had a history of minors being raped, Moopeloa said.

He urged parents to take care of their children.
