A 24-year-old man has been arrested for robbing students in Johannesburg.

He was apprehended yesterday after robbing a 19-year-old man and his friend on their way home, Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said today.

They were walking when he confronted them with a firearm and demanded their cellphones.

Mbele said he searched them and took their calculators. He tried to run away but police on a routine patrol cornered him and he was arrested.

A revolver with no serial number and ammunition was recovered.

The man was charged with armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
