Man arrested in R9m drug bust

A 52-year-old man has been arrested in a multimillion rand drug bust in Maitland, Cape Town.

He was apprehended yesterday after police received a tip-off about drugs being stored at business premises, Colonel Tembinkosi Kinana said today.

“After permission was granted for the police to search the premises, they soon discovered 63?bags – each containing mandrax powder – as well as 18?plastic bags containing methamphetamine [tik] and three scales,” Kinana said.

The drugs were estimated to have a street value of R9?million.

The man, believed to be the business manager of the operation, is due to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates Court on Monday facing a charge of dealing in drugs.
