A 24-year-old man died and three others were injured when their car lost control and collided with a lamp post in Edenvale, Gauteng police said yesterday.

The car was travelling on the R24 east at 10.30pm when it lost control after the Edenvale offramp, said Inspector Mveli Nhlapo.

One of the passengers died on impact, while the driver and two others were seriously injured.

Nhlapo said the accident was caused by speeding and it was suspected that all four men had been under the influence of alcohol.

The injured were taken to Arwyp Medical Centre for further treatment.

Nhlapo said a case of reckless driving and negligence, as well as culpable homicide, would be opened.
