One man died and three others were seriously injured when a

transformer exploded in Rosslyn, Pretoria, today, Gauteng paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said: “Paramedics dispatched

four ambulances and four advanced life support paramedics to the scene.”

On arrival at the industrial site in Pretoria, paramedics found two

of the workers sustained more than 80% burns on their bodies, and one sustained

30% burns.

A fourth worker suffered from inhalation burns.

“Tragically, one of the men died soon after his arrival at hospital

due to the extensive injuries that he had sustained.”

The exact cause of the explosion is still subject to investigation.
