A man has been fined R10 000 for displaying illegal abortion posters in the Johannesburg central business district, metro police said.

The Ugandan man was arrested on the corner of Jeppe and Harrison streets, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.

“He advertised pills which could be used for illegal abortions.”

If he failed to pay R1000 for each of the 10 fines he received, he would be arrested and deported, Minnaar said.

He was given 30 days to pay.
