A man, who was arrested for killing three Numsa members, is due to appear in the Eshowe Magistrates’ Court today, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

The 27-year-old man was arrested on Friday, said Major Thulani Zwane.

It is alleged that on August 6, three shopstewards of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa were in Sundumbili when they were killed.

The three were shot and killed while the fourth victim was shot and wounded, and was taken to hospital for treatment,” said Zwane.

“Another two victims escaped unharmed. [The] motive for their attack is still unknown.”

Police said the incident happened when the three were on their way back from a union meeting in Durban.

At the time, police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said that he could not give further information on the incident or say if it was union-related.

However, he said the three were killed on Mabhengwane Road, Chappies section, and that the fourth person who was with them was wounded.

Today, Zwane said the motive for the murders was still unknown.
