2011-01-21 14:29

A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death by the owner of the house he had allegedly broken into in Kwanobuhle, Uitenhage, Eastern Cape police said.

The owner of the house, a 31-year-old woman, woke up when she heard someone trying to force open her front door, Lieutenant Colonel Priscilla Naidu said.

“The woman then hid behind the door and waited in the dark for the intruder to enter. As the man entered the house, the woman stabbed him once in his chest,” she said.

He ran off and jumped over the neighbour’s wall and collapsed in the next street and died.

The 25-year-old man had tried twice, earlier in the evening, to break into the woman’s house.

Police had opened a case of murder, which was under investigation, Naidu said.

The woman had not yet been arrested.

The woman had opened a case of housebreaking against the man.
