Former president Nelson Mandela’s house in Qunu in the Eastern Cape has been a hive of activity ahead of a family meeting, which was reportedly called by Madiba’s eldest daughter Makaziwe.

About seven cars, some with tinted windows, were seen entering the Qunu residence, which has been relatively quiet in the past three weeks while Mandela has been in hospital.

The cars included a Mercedes-Benz, a Range Rover and several 4x4 double cab bakkies.

Daughters Makaziwe and Zenani, grandson Ndaba and Public Service and Administration Minister Lindiwe Sisulu were seen landing at the Mthatha Airport in a private jet at 09.10am.

Others who entered the Qunu residence included Mandla Mandela and United Democratic Movement leader Bantu Holomisa.

Both Sisulu and Holomisa had visited Mandela in hospital yesterday.

At least two cars also visited the place which is believed to be the Mandela gravesite.

A man at the site was wearing a mask, possibly to avoid being identified by the media.

Last week, two cars and a truck were also seen at the gravesite, while a helicopter hovered over the Mandela home.

Today, a military helicopter again hovered over the residence.

Children and villagers gathered at the gate of Madiba’s house while several cars hooted when they passed by.

Police at the gate screened every car that entered.

An unprecedented media contingent had gathered opposite the gate.
