Police are conducting a manhunt for eight prisoners who escaped from holding cells in Esikhawini, KwaZulu-Natal.

“None have been re-arrested yet, but we are looking for them,” said Captain Thulani Zwane.

Siboniso Mdletshe (28), Sibonelo Mpanza (29), Sibusiso Zulu (21), Nduduzo Mnguni (29), Boy Mlungwana (31), Bheki Mazibuko (19), Sibusiso Mnguni (24) and Sthembiso Mdletshe (25) overpowered two police officers and fled from captivity.
They stole two guns from the officers.

They were being held for various cases including murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, rape and possession of
property suspected to be stolen. Cases of escaping from lawful custody and robbery have since been opened.

Police advised the public not to confront these men, as they are armed and regarded as dangerous criminals.
