Manyi is a PR nightmare

2011-07-01 09:48

I think Jimmy Manyi doesn’t understand the media’s vital role in everyone’s life. It solves their problems and gives them choices.

Yes, sometimes it sensationalises news, but it also provides vital information to the people. The same information that government is keeping from people.

If Manyi wants to control the media and dictate what should be said to the people, he is wrong because then there will be no media freedom.

This is the basics of communication and your attitude towards the media, Mr Manyi, is unacceptable.

You are government’s spin doctor and you should concentrate on communicating things from Cabinet instead of fighting the media. You are focusing on an issue that doesn’t help young journalists or communicators.

The problem here is you guys are fighting over advertisement placements.

Yes, government has to spend on advertising, but that doesn’t mean that you should tell them what to do or what to say.

You talk about media not wanting to publish government stories, but each government department has its own publication so what is the problem?

The problem is that those publications don’t get to the people.

You are failing in your role as government’s public relations officer.

Government communications is such a disaster, you can’t even monitor it.You need to come up with a strategy to report news from government and one that will bring peace between you and the SA National Editors’ Forum.

This is not labour relations, Mr Manyi. This is communications. If you don’t know what you’re doing, step down.

Communications Officer: North West Provincial Government
