Manyisa, Nomvethe back in training

2012-05-26 12:18

Midfielder Oupa Manyisa and veteran marksman Siyabonga Nomvethe have overcome injuries and have started training with their Bafana Bafana teammates at the national team’s camp in Phokeng, outside Rustenburg, North West.

The South African Football Association (Safa) said today that defender Siyabonga Sangweni sat out yesterday morning’s training session after suffering a bout of flu.

However, he was back in the gym in the evening with the rest of the team, and was expected to be back to full training by Monday.

There were 24 players in camp, following the arrival of Sweden-based midfielder May Mahlangu and Santos striker Eleazar Rodgers.

Only six players from Mamelodi Sundowns – Teko Modise, Katlego Mphela, Lebohang Mokoena, Punch Masenamela, Wayne Sandilands – and SuperSport United’s captain Morgan Gould were still to report for national team duty.

The six players were set to contest the Nedbank Cup final in Soweto today and Safa said they would join the Bafana camp tomorrow evening. South Africa face Ethiopia in their opening 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifying match in Phokeng next week.
