Mbele and Slikour insult our intelligence

Veli Mbele cannot name one title by any of the many black luminaries he mentions in “Slikour’s not wrong” (May 6) that bears a direct resemblance to Slikour’s derogatory insult.

Black people are regularly bombarded by name-calling, and images and literature that portray us as inferior, evil and less than. This breeds low self-esteem.

I would never allow anyone to tell me that Blacks R Fools to my face in any situation.

The continuous racial slight that blacks are stupid by nature irks the chip on my shoulder. This is something every black person has to fight against.

Slikour confirms institutional and systematic psychological racism towards black people and the shame of self-loathing with his song title, no matter how “empowering” his lyrics are meant to be.

Mbele insults our intelligence when he attempts to justify Slikour’s affirmation of what white society
has been blatantly and subliminally projecting to our people for generations.

I refute all justification for the erroneous title of Slikour’s song. He got it wrong. He should stop being stubborn and realise his mistake.

Insults to black people cut deep into our victimised psyche and poor self-image.

A less self-serving agenda by a more thoughtful black consciousness artist would have given us a strong critique with an empowering title.
