Mdluli shifted

Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa announced this afternoon that controversial crime intelligence boss Lieutenant General Richard Mdluli would be moved out of the scandal-plagued division.

Mthethwa made the surprise announcement in Parliament during his budget speech.

Mdluli was reinstated last month after being suspended by police chief General Bheki Cele last year. This comes after he was arrested for murder and fraud.

Both charges were controversially dropped by the National Prosecuting Authority.

In March City Press revealed that Mdluli was deeply implicated in a Hawks probe into a R200 million secret crime intelligence “slush fund”.

A confidential report submitted to the Inspector General of Intelligence by two senior crime intelligence officers implicated Mdluli in serious nepotism, fraud and corruption.

Eyewitness News reported that Mthethwa further announced the establishment of a task team, led by the State Law Advisor, to probe Mdluli’s claims that he is being targeted by senior police officials.
