Men try to rape census worker

2011-10-19 07:02

An East London man has been arrested and two others are on the run after allegedly trying to rape a census worker.

The woman went to fetch a census questionnaire from a house in Quigney on Friday afternoon, which she had left there the previous day, the Dispatch Online reported.

One of the occupants said he had not filled in the form because he needed help with it.

She sat down to help him when three “half-naked” men came into the room and told her to take her clothes off.

“I said no, but they came to me, threatening that they will rape me,” the woman was quoted as saying.

The men, one allegedly flashing money, grabbed her and started to strip her.

She ran when a door was opened for somebody calling one of the men.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson Captain Ernest Sigobe confirmed a case had been reported to police.

One man had been arrested on charges of attempted rape.

“Police managed to arrest one suspect and two, who are also suspects in this, are still at large.”
