Mercedes-Benz S 350 BlueTEC

2011-06-17 14:44

This is the most efficient model in the S-Class range. It has a combined fuel consumption of just 6.8-litres and CO2 emissions have dropped from 199g/km to 177g/km.And while it might be more fitting for the green-conscious, the V6 engine produces higher power figures of 190kW and 620Nm of torque.

The active blind-spot and lane-keeping assist – which jerks the driver back into the correct lane almost violently when drifting – also makes it one of the safest cars around.

While the seating comfort package is standard on the S 600 and the S 65 AMG, it is optional on the S 350 model. It offers multi-contour seats, which have a full massage function and luxury head restraints. The seven massage chambers combined with the four modes provide a rolling movement, stimulating the back muscles.

The front seats have standard seat warmers and coolers to keep the driver and the passenger nice and toasty or cool, depending on the weather.

The splitview screen enables the passenger to watch a DVD while the driver can view the navigation system from his side at the same time.

The COMAND APS multimedia system is standard and comes with an integrated radio, COMAND controller and navigation, a handy telephone keypad that’s easily accessible, an eight-inch colour display and a six-DVD player.

The COMAND controller and function buttons are arranged on the centre console, which makes it easy to use for either the driver or the passenger.

A highlight of the navigation package is the linguatronic voice-operated control system.

The multi-function steering wheel is trimmed in fine nappa leather or, if you prefer, it’s available in wood-leather. The optional Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG sound system includes 15 speakers and two amplifiers with a total output of 1 200W.

The seats are covered in leather which was specially designed for the S-Class. Mercedes-Benz says it’s unpressed and lightly coated, so as to give it a natural appearance and softer touch.

There are various colour combinations available providing the owner with a choice of alpaca grey/basalt grey, cashmere beige/savannah beige, chestnut brown/black, sahara beige/black and black/black.

Mercedes-Benz developed the technology known as the BlueTEC to reduce carbon emissions from the diesel vehicles, in particular nitrogen oxides. Thus, AdBlue, an aqueous urea solution, is injected into the exhaust flow to release ammonia which, in turn, converts up to 80% of nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen and water in the downstream selective catalytic reduction converter.

The S 350 BlueTEC comes with a price tag of R1?034?880 which

includes a six-year/120?000km maintenance plan and a two-year/unlimited

kilometre warranty.
