Meyiwa: Mbatha moved out of harm's way

2014-11-11 22:05

Zamokuhle Mbatha, who was arrested in connection with Senzo Meyiwa's murder, has been moved to a place of safety.

His family today said they feared for his life after charges against him were withdrawn and the Boksburg Magistrates' Court released him from custody.

City Press spoke to Mbatha's girlfriend, who said although she saw him for a few minutes, she was relieved that he was out of police custody.

"I'm relieved that Zama is out of prison although I saw him for a few minutes," said his girlfriend, who only identified herself as Joyce.

Magistrate Daniel Thulare earlier today said there was insufficient evidence to prosecute Mbatha (27).

“I understand the anger and irritation of the public … with murder and robbery and other related crimes. I find the anger and irritation to be natural but after careful consideration, I withdraw changes against Mbatha. He’ll be released soon,” said Thulare.
