Minister tackles SABC, vacancies

2010-11-11 11:02

Newly appointed Communications Minister Radhakrishna “Roy” Padayachie announced today that he aimed to fill all vacancies within the next six months.

At a press conference in Pretoria Padayachie said that he would also aim to stabilise the leadership of the SABC, as well as resolve its financial problems.

“What we need is a public broadcaster that functions competently,” he said.

Referring to the 30% vacancy rate at the department of communications, he said that within the next three months a director-general would be appointed and senior management positions filled.

He said that he and newly appointed Deputy Minister Obed Bapela had received positive feedback from the staff they had met since they were appointed to their respective positions by President Jacob Zuma.
