A Midrand student reported missing earlier this month has been found dead.

Philisande Ngum’s decomposing body was found in the veld in President Park, Midrand, on Wednesday, The Star reported today.

Her family identified her yesterday.

Police told the paper investigations were underway to determine the cause of death. No arrests had been made.

Ngum (19) was a student at the Midrand Graduate Institution and was last seen at the Midrand shopping mall. Her mother Catherine told the paper she last spoke to her daughter on the day she went missing.

“She called to ask what the (Bible) text for the month was. She was a God-fearing girl who knew how to pray and spread the gospel,” Catherine was quoted as saying.

Catherine paid a R1 500 ransom after a man called using her daughter’s cellphone. The money was deposited into Ngum’s account.
