Mixed reaction to Linkin Park announcement

2012-07-24 11:52

Reaction on social networks to the announcement that Linkin Park are coming to South Africa have been mixed, with some rallying for other bands to be brought to the country instead.

The American rock band is set to perform two shows live for the first time ever in South Africa in November.

The band tweeted yesterday: “We are heading to South Africa for some shows in November.”

Many took to social networks to express their unhappiness.

Simmi Areff wrote: “Linkin Park are coming and not Red Hot Chilli Peppers? Wow. Big Concerts should have sent a BBM for this announcement.”

Michelle Marais said: “The problem I have with Linkin Park coming to South Africa is that they are not the Foo Fighters.”

Wrote Nokwenzeka Biyela: “Come on, Linkin Park coming to South Africa. Really? Really? Can we have decent people come tour here already?” But the reaction wasn’t all negative. Tweeted Monica Misha: “Hmmmmmm so linkin park coming to south africa. so damn happy, finally my no.1 rock band shweeet.” The band shot to international fame with their debut album Hybrid Theory in 2000 and have since sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, with platinum album sales in 34 countries and five continents. Now they will perform at Cape Town Stadium on November 7 and at the Soccer City Complex, FNB Stadium, Johannesburg, on November 10 with tickets selling on Thursday and Friday from Computicket
