DA parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane went for continuity and not change when he announced the DA’s new Shadow Cabinet.

At a press conference in Parliament today, Maimane revealed which DA MPs would be conducting oversight over which of the 72 portfolios the DA would be focusing on. The Shadow Cabinet has been aligned with the new Cabinet announced by President Jacob Zuma soon after his inauguration last month.

Maimane kept James Selfe at correctional services, David Maynier at defence, Denise Robinson at women, Dianne Kohler Barnard at police, Dion George at finance, Annette Steyn at agriculture, Annette Lovemore at basic education, James Lorimer at mineral resources, Natasha Michael at public enterprises and Lance Greyling at energy.

Maimane moved Ian Ollis from transport back to labour while Manny de Freitas was moved back to transport from home affairs.

Belinda Bozzoli, a former deputy vice-chancellor, got higher education. She is deputised by Yusuf Cassim who was active in the DA Students Organisation at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

Maimane said: “I have sought to place members in portfolios where they are not only fit for purpose, but are passionate about the work of their portfolios and are also fully capable of providing leadership in their respective portfolio allocations.”
