Mob kills suspected thief

2012-01-02 09:37

A suspected livestock thief was allegedly necklaced by members of the community in Thaba Nchu outside Bloemfontein this morning.

The police’s Constable Consolation Mokoale said the man was found in a kraal in Gladstone Trust, Thaba Nchu, when he was attacked around 12.30am today.

He was reportedly severely assaulted before being necklaced.

Necklacing involves forcing a rubber tyre soaked with petrol around a person’s chest and arms, and setting it on fire.

The man was still on fire when police arrived. He was later declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

Mokoale said police hoped to make arrests later today.
