Moloto road accident: woman accused of bewitching driver, house burnt down

2013-11-25 12:19

Thirty-three people have been taken in for questioning after an elderly woman’s house was burnt down in Waterval, Mpumalanga.

A group of residents had accused the woman, who was in her 60s, of bewitching the bus driver in the Moloto Road accident, Colonel Leonard Hlathi said today.

Earlier this month, 29 people died when a truck drove into the back of a tipper truck, before colliding with a Putco bus and a bakkie near Kwaggafontein.

Another person died later in hospital. Twenty-two others were injured.

“People went on a rampage [on Sunday]. We got the information [that she was being attacked]... they were throwing stones at us but we managed to rescue her,” he said.

After police had taken the woman away the group burnt down her house.

Hlathi said police would decide in the course of the day how many of the 33 would be charged with arson.
