Mom, child killed in petrol bomb attack

2010-03-26 08:23

A mother and child burnt to death today in a house fire caused by

two petrol bombs, Cape Town police said.

“Witnesses say that somebody threw a petrol bomb through the front

window of the house and one into the back window at around 3.40am this morning,”

Captain Marie Louw said.

The 34-year-old mother and her eight-year-old child were sleeping

in a bedroom at the front of their house in Bishop Lavis when the first petrol

bomb was thrown.

A 16-year-old girl and her two brothers, who were sleeping in

bedrooms at the back of the house, survived the fire.

The girl was rushed to Tygerberg hospital with second degree burns

to her body, while her brothers received minor burns to their feet and were

treated at the local clinic.

Police have opened a murder docket and are investigating the

incident which, they say, is not gang related.
