Economic Freedom Fighter chief whip Floyd Shivambu faces another contempt-of-Parliament charge for showing Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa the middle finger on September 17.

This was in addition to the contempt of Parliament charges he faces for disrupting proceedings in the National Assembly on August 21.

He and 19 other EFF MPs chanted “pay back the money” at President Jacob Zuma, while he was answering questions.

Parliament’s powers and privileges committee met behind closed doors today to discuss Shivambu’s middle finger.

The committee said it had received another referral from the speaker of Parliament, Baleka Mbete, to “inquire on the incident that occurred on September 17 in the National Assembly, in which the deputy president was responding to oral questions and he was called a murderer by Floyd Shivambu ... who subsequently prompted the speaker to instruct him to withdraw his remarks and after refusing, the speaker ordered him to leave the house whereby he gestured a middle finger to the deputy president on his way out”.
