Most residents against blocking MaSisulu funeral route

2011-06-11 08:05

The majority of Noordegesig residents were not in favour of blocking the route of Albertina Sisulu’s funeral cortege this morning, the National Association for the Advancement of Affected People (NAAAP) said.

“The vast majority would like to honour the day by not disrupting the funeral procession,” said NAAAP founder Mark Trimble.

Residents threatened to block the route of the funeral procession as part of their demonstrations, since Wednesday, after electricity supply to Noordegesig was disrupted.

Power had since been restored, Trimble said.

ANC stalwart Sisulu died at the age of 92 in her Linden home on Thursday.

Her official funeral service takes place at the Orlando Stadium, in Soweto, today.

Thousands of people were expected to attend the funeral, with buses bringing mourners in from across the country.
