Motlanthe to attend youth league lekgotla

2012-02-09 11:06

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe will address the ANC Youth League’s lekgotla tomorrow.

“They do attend from time to time to discuss political issues,” his spokesperson, Thabo Masebe, said today of Motlanthe and other leaders expected at the lekgotla.

Motlanthe, who is deputy president of both the country and the governing ANC, would not discuss the disciplinary matters that have placed the youth league’s leadership in limbo, said Masebe.

The lekgotla will be held after the league’s national executive committee meeting. It will run until Sunday and the media will be briefed on its outcomes on Monday.

The league plans to discuss organisational and political developments and its progress since the last ordinary national executive committee meeting in July.

Its president Julius Malema will open the lekgotla tomorrow.

It is expected to be attended by the league’s top-five officials in all provinces and three leaders from each region.

The ANC disciplinary committee of appeals said on Saturday that it had dismissed appeals by Malema, his spokesperson Floyd Shivambu and four other league officials to overturn their suspensions.

The four others are deputy president Ronald Lamola, treasurer-general Pule Mabe, secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa and deputy secretary-general Kenetswe Mosenogi.

However, their suspensions are on hold while they prepare arguments in mitigation of the suspensions.
