A motorist who accused Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema of common assault has dropped the charges.

Bernard Redelinghuys (22) yesterday accused Malema and another man of assaulting him during an apparent road-rage incident in Polokwane.

However, EWN reported today that the charges have been withdrawn.

Yesterday, Limpopo police said they were investigating a common assault case against Malema and three other men.

The EFF dismissed these reports earlier today.

"The commander in chief is under no investigation, those allegations are false must as a result be treated as such (sic)," said spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi.

He said the allegations were malicious and intended to negatively dent Malema's reputation.

But police spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi was quoted as saying: “It’s not true that he was never investigated. The case was being investigated and then the complainant decided to withdraw the matter.”
