Motshekga heckled by Sadtu

2010-10-06 10:40

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga was heckled by some members of the SA Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) at its national congress in Boksburg today.

Sadtu president Thobile Ntuli condemned the “heckling and howling” of Motshekga saying those responsible would be dealt with.

“Whether you like it or not comrade Angie is the minister of education. I think that you must accept that,” he told delegates who again voiced their displeasure at the minister.

“Heckling might not be the way to go. Taking orders is not accepting defeat but becoming a member of the organisation,” said Ntuli.

Sadtu members were part of the massive public sector strike which saw the relations between government and labour deteriorate.

Many Sadtu members were vocal about their criticism of President Jacob Zuma as well as his administration.

During the three-day Sadtu congress a new leadership vote is expected to be taken and delegates will discuss the resolutions on education taken during the ANC’s national general council in Durban last month.
