Movie review – Also new this week...

» Abduction stars two gorgeous young things – Twilight werewolf Taylor Lautner and Lily Collins, the up-and-coming daughter of Phil Collins. This proves just how weird a science genetics is.

Lautner is a boy who goes in search of his origins when he spots his baby picture on a missing persons website, setting in motion a fast-paced thriller.

Directed by John Singleton (2 Fast, 2 Furious and Baby Boy), this is Lautner’s attempt to keep the noose of typecasting from trapping his film career for ever.

Alas, it’s unlikely to be successful – within two months the first half of Breaking Dawn arrives, reminding us of his shirtless and snarling best in defence of Bella.

» The Art of Getting By is a teen romance with a difference starring former cutie child star Freddie Highmore.

Gone is the chipper little fellow who played Charlie Bucket in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and who brought tears to our eyes in Finding Neverland. He has been replaced by a brooding almost-20-year-old.

Here he is George, a boy who has gotten to his last year of school by skating by on the bare minimum.

He then takes the rap for the school’s prettiest girl – enter Emma Roberts – and his life is transformed. Most of all he learns to get involved in life, which is a good lesson for everyone no matter their age.

Michael Angarano completes the love triangle and adds some weight to counteract Roberts’ trademark frothiness.
