Movies – Can Mr Right be the man next door?

2011-10-07 14:18

What’s Your Number? (Nu Metro) is Anna Faris’ latest attempt to go legit and escape the sticky mess her Scary Movie and House Bunny past has left on her career.

In this film she plays it pretty straight as a girl in search of a husband – something almost every woman in a romcom is looking for.

She’s Ally Darling (yes, really) who discovers that her sex-partner record tallies up to 19, twice the national average, and she’s no closer to Mr Right. So she decides to revisit old flames instead adding to her tally.

She hires her impossibly hot neighbour Colin (enter Mr America aka Chris Evans) to help her look for her exes.

Among them, she hopes to find “the one that got away” or, at the very least, the one who has improved enough to be marriage material.

The major flaw in this plot should be obvious to any hot-blooded woman old enough to lust after a man – Evans as the best friend. If this perfect guy was your neighbour, would you still be looking for Mr Right?

No, you’d be thanking the universe for moving him in next door, of course. No prizes for guessing where she eventually finds the man of her dreams.

What’s Your Number? is a film you’ve seen before, often, but the packaging is good to look at and that makes this a top contender for ladies’ night. I enjoyed this bit of nonsense.

Rating: 7/10 (a higher-than-normal rating on account of Evans’ hot-rodness)
