The Mpisanes shelved their annual New Year’s Eve bash for a bigger and better party – Shauwn’s 40th birthday.

Shauwn and Sbu’s over-the-top party at their palatial home in La Lucia, north of the city, is often attended by Durban’s A-listers from showbiz and political circles.

But this time around the Mpisanes opted to usher in the new year in style, celebrating it with their loved ones on the beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The flamboyant businesswoman told City Press that she’s turning 40 in April, and they had prioritised that milestone over the annual bash.

“40 is a big number. So we can’t be having both the New Year’s Eve bash and the 40th birthday celebration in a short space of time. So we opted to miss the bash and celebrate my birthday instead,” she said.

Last year, the couple presented VIP guests with expensive gifts – perfume for women and Cuban cigars for men. The most expensive gifts were of course reserved for the hosts. They bought each other Rolls-Royces, which they called “batons of hope”.
