A police officer is expected to face attempted murder charges after he allegedly shot dead his girlfriend and wounded their four-year-old son in KwaMhlanga.

The 25-year-old woman went to her boyfriend’s home on Saturday morning and demanded money to buy clothes for their son, Lieutenant Colonel Leonard Hlathi said.

An argument ensued in the presence of the officer’s mother and the boy.

The officer drew his service pistol and fired several shots at his girlfriend. She died on the scene.

“His 58-year-old mother and their son were hit by stray bullets,” Hlathi said.

They were admitted to KwaMhlanga Hospital.

The officer handed himself over to the police after the shooting. He was expected to face a murder and two attempted murder charges in the KwaMhlanga Magistrates’ Court soon.
