Mthethwa back to lead SA netball

Incumbent Mimi Mthethwa was re-elected for another four-year term as Netball South Africa (NSA) president during the body’s annual general meeting in Johannesburg yesterday.

Mthethwa, who has been at the helm for the last seven years, won by 56 votes while her opponents Mpumi Javu and Kgapane Rabotho received 22 and four votes, respectively.

Vice-president Blanche de la Guerre also had a massive 70 to 12 victory over challenger Rabotho.

In another development Javu will no longer serve as the head of selectors as Christine du Preez of Ekurhuleni takes over.

The national council comprises representatives of the 42 NSA regions.

De la Guerre said Mthethwa’s re-election was a recognition of her tremendous contribution to the sport, and the high esteem in which she is held.

“Mimi has led a capable and skilled committee which is focused. The members have shown their confidence in the leadership by choosing us again. We want to forge forward with our development plans and our main priority will be the schools netball and the regional administration development,” said De la Guerre.

Director of coaching, formerly held by Bennie Saayman of Boland, who has stepped down, will now be headed by Anneline Lewis of Gauteng West.
