Mugabe’s call is a denial of justice

2015-03-01 17:00

Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe’s recent call for Africa to dissociate itself from the International Criminal Court will only deny the African people the justice they deserve.

Our African leaders own the courts, the judges, the prosecution, the state security, the police and the army, with the sole purpose of protecting their respective number ones.

The dark embrace of their security clusters ensures that they stay in power for as long as it benefits them. They either cling to dominance interminably or retire in opulence in their “Nkandlas” – without having to account for their reprehensible deeds while in office.

Mugabe, at 91, is rewarded with the African Union chairpersonship while his country is falling apart. Our hapless president just bagged himself another R11?000 per month, with an annual pay cheque of R2?753?689, while the proletariat unremittingly strike for the pittance of a living wage.

From the east, north, centre and west, Africa is wantonly ravaged by militant extremists, yet not one so-called African leader takes umbrage, in fear of compromising their political position.

With mind-sets of impudence, entitlement and smug disrespect for their populace, it is only the innate fear of The Hague that halts Africa from becoming a failed continent.
