Murder suspect found dead

A murder suspect was found hanging in a tree on Wednesday near Mmabatho, North West police said today.

“Murder suspect William Moatlhodi (45) was facing a murder count for brutally killing his ex-girlfriend [but] was found dead on Wednesday hanging by his neck with a wire in a tree,” said spokesperson Adele Myburgh.

“There was no foul play suspected and no note was found.”

Moatlhodi was due to appear in the Mmabatho High court on Tuesday when he “politely” asked an investigating officer if he could leave to buy food.

“He was granted permission as he was legally out on bail, awaiting trail, and not in police custody,” said Myburgh.

He did not return to the court and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

His body was found by a local shepherd the next day.

He was facing murder charges after allegedly chopping off his 39-year old girlfriend’s head, hands and legs with a shovel in December 2010.
