Murder suspect’s house torched

2011-07-13 13:06

A group of angry residents burnt down the house of a murder suspect near Stormriver in Eastern Cape after he was released on bail, police said yesterday.

A crowd gathered outside the house of the 27-year-old man in Sandrift at 11pm yesterday, and demanded to know why he was granted bail, said Lieutenant-Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

Naidu said the police soon arrived and whisked the man and his four children away from the crowd. But they resorted to burning his house down.

The suspected killer was released on R1 000 bail by the Stormriver Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

He was arrested on Saturday for allegedly stabbing another man to death during an argument over R100.

A case of arson was opened for investigation. No arrests have been made.
