This week self-proclaimed SA hip-hop prince AKA released the video for his latest single, Run Jozi (Godly) featuring the ineffable K.O from Teargas.

Choosing to go with a less-is-more strategy, the video doesn’t try to capture all of Joburg.

Instead, it was shot in the Regina Mundi Catholic Church in Soweto, on the Nelson Mandela Bridge in Newton, as well as the Bree Street taxi rank (with the just-as-iconic Toyota Hiace and Quantum taxis in the background).

Shot in black and white, the video gives the necessary generous panoramic shots of the famous Joburg skyline and the not-so-subtle placements of Nike running shoes (the song title shares a name with what used to be Nike’s We RunJozi race in Joburg).

The song is pretty big, K.O’s verse is something really special and although the video feels as if it falls a little short of all that hype, it’s still pretty cool for a pretty special city.
