Musician dies at ANC celebrations

Local mbaqanga band Hhashi Elimphlophe cancelled its performance today at the ANC’s centenary celebrations after the sudden death of a band member.

The artist collapsed backstage shortly before the band was due to perform at an intercultural event at the Mangaung Outdoor Sports Complex as part of the party’s celebrations.

“The man was rushed to the Pelonomi Hospital.

Staff members tried to resuscitate him but the patient had already died,” said Free State health department spokesperson Jabu Mbalula.The cause of his death is still unknown.

The South African Weather Service on Monday sent out warnings of a heat wave in the area, advising people to take the necessary percussions.With temperatures in Bloemfontein reaching 36°C, weather forecaster Tonie Rossow advises people:

» To do their best to lower their body temperature;

» To drink lots of water, and

» To place a wet cloth at the back of their neck.Temperatures across the country are expected to cool down next Tuesday.
