NFP member killed in Joburg

National Freedom Party (NFP) member Sipho Mtshali was gunned down on his way home from a meeting at the Vosloorus hostel in Boksburg, east of Joburg, the party said today.

“Mtshali was organising the party’s heritage day celebrations on Sunday when he was killed,” spokesperson Zanele Cele said.

An NFP supporter, Nkosi Ngwabe, was shot and wounded on Saturday, at Umlazi’s Unit 17 hostel in Durban.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker confirmed that a case of attempted murder was opened in Umlazi, but did not know if it involved an NFP supporter.

“The motives for both attacks are unknown, but the NFP suspects that this is the continuation of systematic attacks aimed at instilling fear in its supporters,” Cele said.

Since the party’s formation, 15 members had been killed in separate incidents.
