The National Arts Festival and Standard Bank have announced the Young Artist Award winners for 2015.

The six winners are Luyanda Sidiya for dance, Nduduzo Makhathini for jazz, Kemang Wa Lehulere for visual art, Musa Ngqungwana for music, Athi-Patra Ruga for performance art and Christiaan Olwagen for theatre.

The Young Artist Award celebrates its 30th year of recognising young South African artists whose works have shown that they are on the brink of national acclaim or whose works have received international recognition.

The six will feature in the main programme of the 2015 National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, which takes place in July next year, where they will be given the opportunity to develop and showcase new works.

Previous winners of the award have included Sibongile Khumalo, Gloria Bosman, Sello Maake Ka Ncube, Concord Nkabinde, Pieter-Dirk Uys and the late Moses Taiwa Molelekwa.
