New Bond baddie a real hottie

The villain in the new James Bond film knows how to portray the baddie type. And he’s not bad to look at either.

In fact, Spanish actor Javier Bardem recently picked up an Oscar for his portrayal of a cold-blooded murderer in a 2007 crime thriller No Country For Old Men. Now he’s faced with a huge task of squaring up to Bond, James Bond.

Bardem (42) recently announced that he will be tackling one of the most sought-after film roles of all time, Agent 007’s archrival. Until the announcement, this was one of Hollywood’s most closely guarded secrets.

In an interview aired on ABC TV network, he said when he was still a child his parents took him to see all the Bond films. “To act in one now is going to be great fun.”

The new Bond film has the working title Bond 23, but it’s rumoured the name could change to Skyfall.

English actor Daniel Craig (43) will be seen as 007 for the third time in the new film, which will be released in November 2012.

Filming of Bond 23 was halted temporarily last year amid concerns about media company MGM’s future. But work has resumed, and some of the scenes were even filmed in SA.

According to the daily evening newspaper Belfast Telegraph, relatively unknown French actress Berenice Marlohe has landed the role of the Bond girl.

Naomie Harris of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie and Ralph Fiennes will apparently also be appearing in the film.

The world of Bond will not be unknown territory for Bardem, since he is married to a Bond girl of his own, Penelope Cruz.
